BP, Coast Guard ignored order to stop using dispersants: report | Raw Story

According to the Post, BP used a loophole in the EPA's order that allowed the Coast Guard to rubber-stamp "exemptions" to the order.

Site Development Workflow: Keep it in Code | Lullabot

Almost a year ago now Development Seed had an article on some of the tools they were developing in order to address a very real, very important problem—that of the whole development to staging to live development process. Up until these tools were available, this process consisted of an archaic—and quite frankly, pain in the butt—method of either duplicating the clicks and changes you made through the Drupal UI in your various environments, or putting all of your changes that needed to be made to the database into update hooks that did very specialized queries, set variables, installed or uninstalled modules etc, etc. This came with a heavy price tag of testing your migration path over and over, resetting your database, and testing again. Oops! Small mistake there... change the code, reset the database, run it again, wash, rinse and repeat. These tools attempt to change all that and now that they're maturing, they've become a godsend for site builders and developers everywhere. Here is the workflow and process we are using at Lullabot and some of the finer points we've picked up along the way.

What are the Bilderberg Group really doing in Spain? - Europe, World - The Independent

It is also possible that the world's executives, media moguls, and financial gurus came to the elegant seaside town near Barcelona to study the booming gay tourist market there (although they missed the wild Carnival celebration by a few months) and to sneak a preview of next year's international horror film festival.

The Escapist : News : Warner Bros. Sued for Pirating Anti-Piracy Technology

German firm Medien Patent Verwaltung claims that in 2003, it revealed a new kind of anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. that marks films with specific codes so pirated copies can be traced back to their theaters of origin. But like a great, hilariously-ironic DRM Ouroborus, the company claims that Warner began using the system throughout Europe in 2004 but hasn't actually paid a dime for it.

Is BP trying to cap the Gulf oil well, or keep it flowing? -- Signs of the Times News

This claim stands in direct contradiction to what BP says. The company insists it's trying to stop the flow of oil from the well. But if you look at BP's actions, what they're really trying to do is siphon off the gushing oil where it can be pumped to a tanker ship and sold as crude. It is a simple matter, by the way, for oil companies to separate water from oil. They do it all the time in oil fields all across America. So if they can siphon off the oil from the Deepwater Horizon well -- even if it's mixed with water -- they can sell it for potentially billions of dollars.

Aegir Hosting System - one Drupal to rule them all | DrupalCon San Francisco 2010

Even if you only have a few sites, and would like to be able to spend less time on the tedious manual tasks associated with running a Drupal site over it's entire lifetime, you will still find something of use in this presentation.

If you've looked at Aegir in the past, and would like to get a sense of the progress made by the project (two major releases since Drupalcon DC), this presentation is a good way to get a grasp on where we are heading.

CYNTHIA MCKINNEY : End Israeli Impunity Now | My Catbird Seat

I am outraged at Israel%u2019s latest criminal act. I mourn with my fellow Free Gaza travelers, the lives that have been lost by Israel%u2019s needless, senseless act against unarmed humanitarian activists. But I%u2019m even more outraged that once again, Israel%u2019s actions have been aided and abetted by a U.S. political class that has become corrupted beyond belief due to its reliance on Zionist finance and penetration by Zionist zealots for whom no U.S. weapons system is too much for the Israeli war machine, and the silence of the world%u2019s onlookers whose hearts have grown cold with indifference.

4um: Oilpocalypse Now Take I

The best expert estimates I have seen are that minimally we have 2.9 MILLION GALLONS of Oil escaping into the Gulf each day. The volume of methane is about treble that. BP, in an effort to camouflage its true scale is pumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of even more toxic oil dispersant into the volcano. To get an idea of the scale think of the largest stadium you know, fill it with oil every day, dump it on the surrounding landscape, and then refill it TWICE each day. Then you begin to get an approximation of the volume of oil escaping.

Energy expert: Nuking oil leak %u2018only thing we can do%u2019 | Raw Story

His idea echoes that of a Russian newspaper that earlier this month suggested the US detonate a small nuclear bomb to seal the oil beneath the sea. Komsomoloskaya Pravda argued in an editorial that Russia had successfully used nuclear weapons to seal oil spills on five occasions in the past.

War on whistle-blowers intensifies - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

The Obama administration's war on whistleblowers -- whose disclosures are one of the very few remaining avenues for learning what our government actually does -- continues to intensify. Last month, the DOJ announced it had obtained an indictment against NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake, who exposed serious waste, abuse and possible illegality. Then, the DOJ re-issued a Bush era subpoena to Jim Risen of The New York Times, demanding the identity of his source who revealed an extremely inept and damaging CIA effort to infiltrate the Iranian nuclear program.

Is It Raining Oil In Florida? This Is Just The Beginning -- Signs of the Times News

Oil is semi-volatile, which means that it can evaporate into the air and create a heavy vapor that stays near the ground -- in the human breathing zone. When winds whip up oily sea water, the spray contains tiny droplets -- basically a fume -- of oil, which are small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs. We know that's happening in the Gulf Coast, because people are reporting a heavy oily smell in the air. Already my colleagues in Louisiana are reporting that people in the coastal community of Venice, Louisiana are suffering from nausea, vomiting, headaches, and difficulty breathing.

BP oil spill: words flow in Louisiana, but communication is blocked | Environment | The Guardian

At which point Bob Fryar, a BP senior vice-president, unleashed his own Dunkirk-style aerial bombardment of figures. BP had provided $15m to encourage tourism in Louisiana and would spend $500m over 10 years to research the environmental impact of the oil spill. "BP will continue to invest in the things that matter to people," he said.

[...]

"I hope you are impressed by these numbers," he said. "I certainly am. This has been the most extraordinary response I have ever seen. It's historic. I would not have expected this measure of success, and you should feel somewhat relieved by that."

Success? Relieved? His choice of words was met with blank stares from the audience and a few audible guffaws.

C'est quoi ces gens qui se plaignent alors que BP a tant fait et fera tant pour eux ?

Washington's Blog:: Prominent Oil Industry Insider: "There's Another Leak, Much Bigger, 5 to 6 Miles Away"

If accurate, the bigger leak could have been caused by the destruction of the well casing when the oil rig exploded. That is Simmons' theory.

Oil Doesn%u2019t Come from Squashed Ferns and Fish??

Editor%u2019s Note: Understanding the origin of petroleum is not an arcane subject of interest only among academics. Rather, it has vast political and economic ramifications including refuting the idea that oil is a finite resource found only in relation to sedimentary rock in certain areas of the world such as the Middle East. If Gold is correct, as he has been so many times before, imponderable amounts of oil are constantly being manufactured from hydrocarbon sources constantly upstreaming from the Earth%u2019s upper mantle (beneath the Earth%u2019s crust) by a vast domain of bacterial life. Indeed, we now know that oil and gas fields are not running out at the expected time, but seem to be recharging from below. (11) Probably the most frustrating aspect of this topic is that American geoscientists have shamelessly ignored the boatloads of evidence and seem locked into studying %u201Cfossil fuels%u201D instead of %u201Cenergy fuels.%u201D
