Amy Goodman Interviews the Parents of Rachel Corrie - Salem-News.Com
Posted 13 March, 2010 - 11:49 by marco
This comes as an unusual trial gets underway in Haifa. An American family is suing the state of Israel for the unlawful death of their daughter, Rachel Corrie, a twenty-three-year-old student from Evergreen College in Olympia, Washington. She was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer in Gaza seven years ago. Today, the Haifa District Court in northern Israel will begin hearing evidence from eyewitnesses to Rachel%u2019s death. An earlier internal army investigation exonerated the bulldozer drivers, concluding the soldiers could not see the young American peace activist in front of them. The eyewitness testimony is expected to challenge Israel%u2019s version of events with evidence that she was clearly visible to the soldiers, standing before the bulldozer in her florescent orange jacket.
Chris Hedges: Ralph Nader Was Right About Barack Obama - Chris Hedges' Columns - Truthdig

We owe Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney an apology. They were right about Barack Obama. They were right about the corporate state. They had the courage of their convictions and they stood fast despite wholesale defections and ridicule by liberals and progressives.
Obama lies as cravenly, if not as crudely, as George W. Bush. He promised us that the transfer of $12.8 trillion in taxpayer money to Wall Street would open up credit and lending to the average consumer. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), however, admitted last week that banks have reduced lending at the sharpest pace since 1942. As a senator, Obama promised he would filibuster amendments to the FISA Reform Act that retroactively made legal the wiretapping and monitoring of millions of American citizens without warrant; instead he supported passage of the loathsome legislation. He told us he would withdraw American troops from Iraq, close the detention facility at Guantánamo, end torture, restore civil liberties such as habeas corpus and create new jobs. None of this has happened.

It's still unclear why John Patrick Bedell opened fire Thursday at the Pentagon entrance, wounding two police officers before he was fatally shot. The two officers were hospitalized briefly with minor injuries.
Un autre* américain se suicide. Ce coup-ci en tirant sur des policiers sur le site du pentagone.

What Are Banks Doing with Their Depositors' Money?
Posted 1 March, 2010 - 21:51 by marco
Instead of depositor money being used to stimulate economic activity in the private sector by lending to businesses and consumers, the banks are helping to fund the growing federal deficits. This re-allocation of resources has a negative long-term impact on the economy. Depositor money is not being used for productive purposes like building manufacturing plants and making other investments that will create jobs and grow the economy. It is being spent by the government, which consumes in the present and does not invest for the future.

shouldn't we spend more time analyzing why a guy would go to the extreme of killing himself and others in protest of the IRS than we do on Tiger Woods cheating on his wife???
Joe Stack's Letter
Posted 22 February, 2010 - 22:45 by marco
I know I'm hardly the first one to decide I have had all I can stand. It has always been a myth that people have stopped dying for their freedom in this country, and it isn't limited to the blacks, and poor immigrants. I know there have been countless before me and there are sure to be as many after. But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change. I choose to not keep looking over my shoulder at «big brother» while he strips my carcass, I choose not to ignore what is going on all around me, I choose not to pretend that business as usual won't continue; I have just had enough.

Dissentions au plus haut niveau du gouvernement Obama
The president would have been better off heeding Emanuel's counsel. For example, Emanuel bitterly opposed former White House counsel Greg Craig's effort to close the Guantanamo Bay prison within a year, arguing that it wasn't politically feasible. Obama overruled Emanuel, the deadline wasn't met, and Republicans pounced on the president and the Democrats for trying to bring terrorists to U.S. prisons. Likewise, Emanuel fought fiercely against Attorney General Eric Holder's plan to send Khalid Sheik Mohammed to New York for a trial. Emanuel lost, and the result was another political fiasco.
Obama's greatest mistake was failing to listen to Emanuel on health care. Early on, Emanuel argued for a smaller bill with popular items, such as expanding health coverage for children and young adults, that could win some Republican support. He opposed the public option as a needless distraction.
U.S. patriot missiles in Poland early April: report | Reuters
Posted 21 February, 2010 - 21:51 by marco
The Patriots are part of a Polish-U.S. agreement signed last December to upgrade the NATO member's air defenses, following Washington's decision last September to scrap a Bush-era Missile Shield incorporating installations in Poland and the neighboring Czech Republic.
Russia has repeatedly warned against stationing NATO missiles in former Soviet-bloc countries and said it would beef up its naval base across the border from Poland in its Baltic enclave Kaliningrad.
U.S. placed Iran nuclear issue on pressure track | WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

And General Petraeus, one other little matter I might mention at this time. The Symington Amendment to the US Constitution stipulates that no aid of any kind can be given to any country with nuclear weapons which is not a signatory to the NNPT, and refuses to allow IAEA inspections.
As the world knows, based on the revelations of Mordechai Vannunu in the late 80s, and confirmed by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former US President Jimmy Carter, Israel has nuclear weapons, will not sign the NNPT, nor allow IAEA inspections of its nuclear facilities.
