ClandesTime 106 – An Alternative History of Al Qaeda: The FBI and the WTC bombing - Spy Culture

The WTC bombing in 1993 was a massive embarrassment for the Bureau. It emerged at the resulting trials that the Bureau had an informant deep within the Al Kifah group, but fired him months before the bombing took place. This week we take a closer look at Emad Salem, the former Egyptian intelligence officer hired by the FBI to infiltrate the Blind Sheikh's circle.

Reports: 36 Dead After MOAB Bombing in Afghanistan, ISIS Rejects

We Are Change

There are conflicting accounts regarding how many people died in yesterday’s MOAB (Mother of all Bombs) bombing in Afghanistan. This was the first time this non-nuclear bomb was used in combat, marking a turning point in the War on Terror. Since U.S. reports suggest that offensive operations will continue against ISIS in Afghanistan, this may be just the first escalation in an evolving conflict.

ClandesTime 105 – An Alternative History of Al Qaeda: The Blind Sheikh - Spy Culture

The Blind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman was an Egyptian cleric who played a critical role in the early years of Al Qaeda. Rahman and his followers took over the New York branch of the MAK, an international fundraising and recruiting organisation that was central to the CIA's Operation Cyclone.

Subscriber Podcast #6 – Under Siege (no, not that one) - Spy Culture

In this month's subscriber-only podcast Pearse and I discuss the 1986 TV movie Under Siege. Co-written by former Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward on the surface this is a liberal take on the Reagan White House, but underneath is a profoundly neoconservative film.

ClandesTime 104 – An Alternative History of Al Qaeda: The Four Models - Spy Culture

Beginning a new series on the history of Al Qaeda, this week I provide the basis for what's coming in the next several episodes. What is or was Al Qaeda? Four distinct models have been proposed to try to answer this question so I outline each, drawing on the works of Rohan Gunaratna, Jason Burke/Adam Curtis, Nafeez Ahmed and Daniele Ganser.

WTC Bombing and the Death of the Blind Sheikh – Tom Secker on PPR - Spy Culture

This week I joined Pearse on his radio show to revisit the 1993 WTC bombing, in light of the recent anniversary and the death of former CIA asset the Blind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman.

Exercises and False Flag Terror – Tom Secker on The Mind Renewed - Spy Culture

Julian of The Mind Renewed invited me back onto his show to discuss the link between false flag terrorism and training exercises. While this is usually talked about in a very simplistic and historically ignorant way, the method of using a drill or training exercise to cover for a black operation is a real tactic.

Homeland Season 6 – Tom Secker on Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

This week I joined Pearse to talk about the beginning of the new season of Homeland, and how it isn't quite what we expected. The entire 6th season is set between the US presidential election and inauguration day and while the president-elect is female, she is no Hitlery Clinton. Instead she is a peacenik who wants to withdraw from Syria, and believes the domestic terrorist threat is overblown.

Review: Spies Episode 1 - Spy Culture

Spies is the 'new' game show from Channel 4. I say 'new' because it's a blow-for-blow remake of the 2004 BBC series Spy, which also took a small group of members of the public and had three former spooks put them through their paces via a series of tests and training exercises.

Pentagon Production Assistance Agreement for United 93 - Spy Culture

United 93 was the first and - to date - the only major movie to depict what happened in the skies over the US on the morning of the 9/11 attacks. The film-makers intended it to be as accurate and realistic as possible, so they reached out to the Pentagon and the US Air Force in particular for assistance.

Did the CIA rewrite Charlie Wilson’s War? - Spy Culture

Charlie Wilson's War reduces nearly 10 years of the Soviet-Afghan War into an hour and forty minutes of Sorkin-scribed witty dialogue focusing almost entirely on how one alcoholic, womanising congressman helped to raise the billions of dollars that were given to the mujahideen to fight the godless Commie invaders.

ClandesTime 086 – The Cinema of the Soviet-Afghan War - Spy Culture

The Soviet-Afghan War helped bring down the Soviet Union and encouraged the rise of Al Qaeda and Islamism. The films about this war have been sponsored by both Western governments - Britain, the USA and Israel - and by Russia. This week I look at these films, their state sponsorship and how they portray both the Red Army and the Mujahideen, with some surprising results.

Did the Pentagon use The Battle of Algiers as a training film? - Spy Culture

The Battle of Algiers was a groundbreaking film when it came out in 1966, not just for its depiction of the Algerian War against French occupation but for its quasi-documentary realism and its morally neutral approach, showing both sides committing atrocities.

The CIA and Hollywood 14 – Zero Dark Thirty - Spy Culture

Robbie Martin is our final guest for this season as we dissect the 2012 docudrama Zero Dark Thirty. We discussed the difficulty in defining what kind of film this is - somewhere between a spy thriller, a documentary and a dry European art house movie.

Pentagon-Hollywood Collaboration Database Excerpts - Spy Culture

The Department of Defense maintains a database summarising its collaboration with Hollywood productions. The master list for this database was released to me two years ago as the DOD Film List and since then I have obtained a handful of entries.

Review: A Very Heavy Agenda - Spy Culture

Robbie Martin's A Very Heavy Agenda is a powerful series of documentary films that chart the rise of neo-conservatism and its ever-changing impact on US and global affairs. From the Kagans to the Kristols, from the anthrax attacks to Hilary Clinton, this is an epic journey into the dark heart of American media and politics.

The CIA and Hollywood 11 – The Men Who Stare at Goats - Spy Culture

Jay Dyer joins us for this episode where we analyse the 2009 comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats, loosely based on Jon Ronson's book of the same name. It tells the story of a journalist who is inducted into the world of psychic soldiers during the Iraq war.

16 Military and Intelligence Code Names Inspired by Popular Culture - Spy Culture

One of the most prominent influences of pop culture on government and on the deep state is in the use of code names. From the capture of Saddam Hussein to a counter-smuggling helicopter unit in Hawaii, from a mass surveillance program named after Blazing Saddles to Secret Service and MI5 code names taken from cartoon characters, this is a widespread and frequent phenomenon.

‘Bin Laden Burial’ Took Place on Top Gun Ship - Spy Culture

Following the raid in Abbottabad in May 2011 the body of 'Osama Bin Laden' was flown to Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, where Admiral William McRaven did not initially recognise him. From there the body was flown to the USS Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier, where an autopsy was performed before a burial at sea. This is the same aircraft carrier that 25 years earlier featured in the film Top Gun.

ClandesTime 082 – The Foreigner - Spy Culture

The Foreigner stars Jackie Chan and former James Bond Pierce Brosnan, and is directed by two-time Bond director Martin Campbell. In February the film-makers blew up a bus in central London in a sequence that was spookily reminiscent of the 7/7 London bombings of 2005. To see if this similarity was a concern for the government agencies who approved and assisted The Foreigner filming in London, I filed a series of FOIA requests.

Blazing Saddles, Dick Jokes and Racism in the US Navy - Spy Culture

Blazing Saddles is one of the greatest American spoofs of all time, satirising not just Westerns and the whole cowboy archetype but also the racism prevalent in much of Western society. It remains one of my favourite comedies, and possibly Mel Brooks' best film. While the film itself was not sponsored by the state (at least as far as I know) it did turn up in a recent Navy investigation into misconduct by a senior officer.

ClandesTime 080 – United 93 - Spy Culture

United 93 was one of the first major films on the 9/11 attacks, and was praised for its in-depth research and docudrama realism. However, underneath the engrossing cinéma vérité style is a story of the US air defences that morning based almost entirely on the 9/11 Commission.

Review: The CIA in Hollywood - Spy Culture

Tricia Jenkins' The CIA in Hollywood was one of the books that inspired me to start this site, and the recently published second edition expands considerably on the original. Because the CIA is resistant to FOIA requests and other forms of inquiry, Jenkins amassed a wide range of open source materials and interviewed various people both from the CIA (or formerly of the CIA) and from the entertainment industry.

ClandesTime 078 – Chase Brandon: The CIA’s Man in Hollywood - Spy Culture

Chase Brandon was the CIA's first Entertainment Industry Liaison. From 1996 to early 2007 he was the CIA's man in Hollywood, working on a dozen major movies and numerous high-profile TV shows. In this episode we examine the background of the CIA in the entertainment industry and how they founded their Entertainment Liaison Office and appointed Brandon in charge of it.

ClandesTime 077 – Phil Strub: DOD Entertainment Liaison - Spy Culture

Phil Strub has been the Pentagon's Hollywood liaison since 1989, in which time the entertainment liaison offices have helped produce over 100 films. In this episode we take a closer look at Phil Strub, his background, how he came to be the DOD's Hollywood liaison and his curious habit of downplaying or minimising the role of the Pentagon in the entertainment industry.

CIA Blame Dog for Leaving Bomb on School Bus - Spy Culture

As is being widely reported in the media today, the CIA accidentally left explosives on a Virginia school bus for several days after a training exercise. During this time the bus continued its regular job of ferrying kids to and from school, all the while with 'explosive training material' in the engine block.

ClandesTime 074 – The Secret World of Tom Clancy Part I – The Films - Spy Culture

Tom Clancy was one of the most popular spy authors of all time, but was he a spy himself? What are the nature of his government connections? How were the film adaptations of his novels supported by the Pentagon and the CIA? What script changes were made by the DOD in exchange for their support?

Video: Police refuse to release information on London bus explosion - Spy Culture

As many of you will remember, in early February a Hollywood film crew blew up a bus in central London. Because the bus explosion was so eerily reminiscent of the 7/7 London bombings and because I read about the Ministry of Defence, MI5 and MI6 being warned about the explosion ahead of time, I decided to file some Freedom of Information requests.

The X-Files episode 5: Hippies and Neo-Nazis Unite - Spy Culture

The latest X-Files episode - Babylon - sees both wings of the conspiracy culture united in one easy-to-digest dose. Both the emerging Neo-Nazi front that is widespread but particularly vicious within the conspiracy world and the lefty hippy crowd who want to take drugs and try to levitate the Pentagon are given strong reassurances and affirmations.

ClandesTime 069 – Political Correctness Gone Mad - Spy Culture

Recent stories focusing on the 'migrant crisis' and 'the Cologne attacks' - among other incidents - are provoking racial and religious tensions in Europe. In this episode I look at the simple-minded dialogue around these trends and events, identifying the Russian state as playing a critical role in the incitement.

Tom Clancy’s FBI File (Part II) - Spy Culture

Tom Clancy was one of the best selling spy authors of all time, known not only for his technical accuracy - gleaned through extensive government contacts - but also for an uncanny ability to predict the future. Part of his FBI file was released in 2014 but in recent weeks another section has been made available. It sheds light on just how deep his government contacts must have run, on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Secret State Involvement in Kingsman - Spy Culture

Kingsman is perhaps the most intriguing film of the year - on the face of it a cartoonish action comedy set in the world of gentlemen spies, but underneath it is an ultra-violent, racist, eugenicist film of dubious sexual virtue. No government agencies were listed in the credits for the film but at least two were involved in the movie.

ClandesTime 066 – Homeland Season 5 Episode 12 ‘A False Glimmer’ - Spy Culture

This review of the finale of Homeland discusses not just the final episode but the entire season. We reflect on what is new and different about this fifth season, from the religious dimensions being crow-barred into the show to the use of Russians as the enemy image and hackers as second-level terrorists.

Disinfowars 28 – Is Jacob Appelbaum for Real? - Spy Culture

Jacob Appelbaum is a journalist, hacker and a major developer on the TOR project. However, he neglects to mention the origins of TOR (the Office of Naval Research) or the Pentagon's role in funding its development. In this episode I reflect on whether Appelbaum should be taken seriously as an advocate for an open society free from mass surveillance.

ClandesTime 065 – Homeland episode 10 ‘New Normal’ - Spy Culture

This much more dramatic episode of Homeland was the basis for a fun review discussion this week, touching on the hints towards the deep state, the portrayal of the Laura Poitras character, the implausibility of the CIA's handling of the Russian double agent problem and Pearse's hatred of Allison.

Homeland Season 5 episode 9: The Litvinov Ruse – Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

On this episode of our Homeland series Tom and I spent the first half of the episode dissecting the falsehoods that this particular episode as put forth in terms of the legality of spying. Suddenly aware of the rule of law and constitutional rights we see all the major characters in this episode pushing this agenda of doing everything by the book.

Disinfowars 27 – Who the hell are ISIS, anyway? - Spy Culture

ISIS are a terrifying, devastating Sunni militia that emerged out of the Iraqi insurgency and the anti-Assad jihad … except they aren't particularly religious! And their origin story makes no sense. And militarily speaking they are a joke who could be wiped out within weeks if NATO wanted that.

Disinfowars 26 – The Power of Nightmares - Spy Culture

The Power of Nightmares was possibly the last great documentary series produced by the BBC. A decade after it was first broadcast I look back at the series, offering a brief review before using this as a basis for analyzing recent events. I discuss the criticism of the filmmaker Adam Curtis for his superficial take on 9/11, before exploring the 'defection' of Jamal Al Fadl, an associate of Osama Bin Laden.

ClandesTime 063 – Homeland Season 5 Episode 8 ‘All About Allison’ - Spy Culture

This was not the most interesting instalment of Homeland so Pearse and I talked about topics related to the episode including the history of Kosovo and NATO's use of jihadis in the entire Balkans region, the arrest this week of a mysterious unnamed Montenegrin arms trafficker on his way to Paris, and why it is that the US Marine Corps Entertainment Liaison Office reports do not make any mention of Homeland.

Homeland Season 5 Episode 7 ‘Oriole’- Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

On this episode of our Homeland review series,Tom and I try to decipher this puzzle-piece of an episode. In contrast to last week’s fairly simple episode, this week’s was complex and intriguing. We explore the character of Alison and her trajectory from CIA station chief to Russian double agent. We discuss how the show is turning her into the ultimate villain, who is not only a master manipulator, but a cold and calculating egoist.

Disinfowars 25 – Delving Deeper: What Happened in Paris? - Spy Culture

The Friday the 13th massacre in Paris was the worst attack in Western Europe since Madrid in 2004, leaving well over a hundred people dead. Responsibility has been claimed by the Islamic State and French leader François Hollande has promised 'merciless' retribution.

ClandesTime 062 – Homeland Season 5 Episode 6 ‘Parabiosis’ - Spy Culture

Today Pearse and I discuss the latest 6th episode of Homeland, 'Parabiosis' which saw the return of the classic spies vs jihadis type of storyline. We looked at the two halves of the story - Quinn holed up in a refugee hostel/terrorist halfway house and ultimately him killing the Reel Bad Arab Hajik, and Saul's rediscovering that he is actually a skilled secret agent.

Homeland Season 5 episode 5 Review – Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

In the latest of our Homeland reviews, Tom and I tackle the latest episode, ¨Better Call Saul.” In true form to this season, the fifth episode completely resets the original storyline and refocuses our attention to the evil Russians. Tom and I discuss this development and how it plays out in the episode.

CIA Inspector General’s Report on Engagement with the Entertainment Industry - Spy Culture

In the wake of the scandal over the CIA giving classified information to the makers of Zero Dark Thirty the Agency's Office of the Inspector General carried out an audit into their involvement in the entertainment industry. The report heavily criticises the CIA's entertainment liaison office for terrible record keeping and a very casual culture.

ClandesTime 061 – Homeland Season 5 Episode 4 - Spy Culture

In this conversation Pearse and I took a few detours and rambled all over the place, but mostly talked about the concept of hyperreality - the condition of a consciousness that cannot distinguish between the real and the simulated. We show how Homeland does this but also consider the question of why: why would the CIA be interested in using this effect that shows like Homeland have on their audiences?

Homeland Season 5 episode 3 Review – Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

This week we begin by exploring Homeland’s blatant sexism and misogny. We focus first on Carrie and her characters return to bi-polar nymphomaniac, and how the show has routinely made Carrie into an awful female character that we all hate. Tom and I discuss our theories for why the producers have continued to make Carrie into a monster and how this translates into a larger picture of how we view the CIA through Carrie.

ClandesTime 060 – Homeland Season 5 Episode 2 - Spy Culture

Continuing our review series of the 5th season of Homeland Pearse joined me to discuss the second episode. We dwelt on the coinciding of real news events and storylines and dialogue in Homeland, asking how the show manages to pull this off so consistently.

Homeland Season 5 Episode 1 Review – Porkins Policy Radio - Spy Culture

For this new fifth season of Homeland Pearse and I are doing an episode-by-episode review to see if a more in-depth study of the show proves interesting and fun. From the first episode of season five of Homeland it appears that, like season four, this is a departure from the established Homeland settings and storylines.

Disinfowars 21 – The Snowden – Twitter Bullshit - Spy Culture

Former CIA officer and NSA contractor Edward Snowden has recently joined Twitter. While this is hardly headline news the story has gone around the world, reported on by dozens of major media outlets. A follow-up story, that Snowden accidentally received 47 gigabytes of emails as a result of joining Twitter also got enormous attention, despite being obviously untrue.

Disinfowars 20 – How to Catch Brzezinski in a Lie - Spy Culture

Deep state intellectual Zbigniew Brzezinski turns up everywhere but he is perhaps most known for his role in the founding of Operation Cyclone - NATO's program to support the mujahideen in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. The media coverage, both mainstream and alternative, has focused on misleading interpretations of what happened and when, much of which has been encouraged by Brzezinski himself.

Disinfowars 19 – Is David Shayler a Fake Whistleblower? - Spy Culture

David Shayler is possibly the most famous security service whistleblower in British history. He has also claimed to be the Messiah. In this episode I delve into Shayler's story and his influence on the 9/11 and 7/7 truth movements, where he has always advocated the most lunatic, tabloid versions of events.

Disinfowars 18 – Was Guy Fawkes a Patsy?

The Gunpowder Plot is the most famous terrorist conspiracy in British history and one of the most famous in the world. The name 'Guy Fawkes' is familiar to almost anyone who speaks English, but this was a much larger and more complex event than we have been led to believe, particularly by Hollywood versions like V For Vendetta.

Disinfowars 17 – The Mystery of Martial Bourdin

Martial Bourdin was an anarchist who accidentally blew himself up near the Greenwich Royal Observatory in London in 1894. This event formed the basis for a book by Joseph Conrad and a film by Alfred Hitchcock, but behind the absurdity and horror lies a familiar tale of secret agents, insider accounts and the advancement of the security state.

Disinfowars 16 – Lawrence of Arabia

Was Lawrence of Arabia the first Gladio B operative? In answering this question, today's episode presents a view of World War One from the perspective of British geostrategy in the Middle East. Using a fascinating lecture as the basis for our discussion I outline how Turkey got drawn into the war, at a time when the Ottoman empire was crumbling.

The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing – Tom Secker on The Opperman Report

Ed Opperman invited me on The Opperman Report to talk about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. In this very fun conversation we discussed the question of FBI informant Emad Salem, and how he was pulled out of the WTC bombing gang 6 months before the blast.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker: False Flag Operations in WW2

Continuing our exploration into the origins and development of false flag operations, this week we look at World War 2 and the British Double Cross System. Run by an Oxford academic, this system was set up to detect Nazi agents as they landed in Britain and turn them into double agents working for the British.

Disinfowars 14 – The Ireland – 7/7 Connection

The War on Terror in Ireland never truly ended, it simply evolved into a new, updated and more sophisticated War on Terror. In this episode I look the connections between the black operations being run by the British deep state in Northern Ireland and the 7/7 London bombings of 2005.

ClandesTime episode 055 – Crackdown on the Crackpots

In this show I examine recent events in the alternative media, with the conviction of Chris Spivey and the arrest of an 'activist' at the centre of the Hampstead Hoax. I discuss how conspiracy theorists often live up to the derogatory mainstream media stereotyping and ask how much is cause and how much is effect.

Disinfowars 13 – Institutional Secrecy

Following on from last week's show I look at how the intelligence services who were causing mayhem in Northern Ireland were protected by a culture of institutional secrecy in the British government. Via a little-known government file that was declassified in 2009 I tell the story of government policy on avowing the existence of the security services.

Disinfowars 12 – The Troubles

In this episode I explore The Troubles, beginning with the background of the struggle for Irish independence going back over a century. I outline how the struggle has always gone through its peaceful, political phases and its revolutionary violent phases. In every violent phase the British deep state has responded by enhancing the power of the security services.

Disinfowars 10 – 9/11 and Gladio B

From triple agents training terrorists in the mountains of Turkey to the CIA cable that was never sent, this episode examines the context around 9/11 to identify several people and part of the story of how the 9/11 attacks were a Gladio operation.

Disinfowars 9 – A Philosophy of Fear

In a culture that in many ways is characterized by social disintegration, fear is something we all share, a unifying perspective on existence. Political fear does not arise in a vacuum, it is created and maintained. This week we explore these ideas with Professor Lars Svendsen, the author of A Philosophy of Fear.

ClandesTime 053 – The 7/7 London Bombings, Ten Years On

I look back on the 2005 London bombings and explain why I think the 7/7 movement failed. From predictive programming to infiltration, from bigoted truth celebrities to propaganda, I offer my take on why the effort to bring about a proper investigation of the London bombings did not succeed.

Disinfowars 8 – The Politics of Fear

Today, almost all politics are a politics of fear, and almost all policies are defended and excused through some notion of 'security'. Fear-therefore-security is the dominant political dynamic of our time. This week I take a look at these concepts, exploring whether all politics is a politics of fear, and offering examples of when this can work well and when it can work very badly.

Disinfowars 6 – No Easy Day

In this episode I do a critical review of No Easy Day, the real-life story written by a former Navy SEAL who was on the Abbottabad raid. I look at the controversy around the book, which is still going on, and ask whether it is all either a smokescreen or a promotional technique. Then I analyze the content of No Easy Day, asking the big questions: (1) Was it really Bin Laden that they killed?

Disinfowars 05 – The Disinfowar on Terror

Today I am joined by Pearse Redmond of PorkinsPolicyReview.com and one of the hosts of the BFP roundtable. We expand on the last two episodes, responding to some listeners comments, in particular explaining our views of the Oded Yinon plan for a 'greater Israel' and the persistent but false rumour that Shin Bet were secretly behind the Entebbe hijacking.

Disinfowars 4 – How the Cold War became the War on Terror

This week I present a mini-documentary on the rise of the neocons in the 1970s and how they turned Cold War paranoia into War on Terror paranoia. I look at the people and organisations involved: Henry Jackson and the Coalition for a Democratic Majority, Richard Pipes and Team B, the reformed Committee on the Present Danger and how this all ties in with the Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism in 1979.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- How the Cold War became the War on Terror

This week I present a mini-documentary on the rise of the neocons in the 1970s and how they turned Cold War paranoia into War on Terror paranoia. I look at the people and organisations involved: Henry Jackson and the Coalition for a Democratic Majority, Richard Pipes and Team B, the reformed Committee on the Present Danger and how this all ties in with the Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism in 1979.

Disinfowars 3 – The Ideological Origins of the War on Terror

This is the third episode of my new podcast for Boiling Frogs Post. This is a weekly show that is only available to BFP subscribers. In the first of a three-part series I look into the 1979 Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism, where the ideology of the current War on Terror was conceived. I focus in on Benjamin Netanyahu, who hosted the conference and later wrote a book on all the major speeches and discussion.

DisInfoWars with Tom Secker- The Ideological Origins of the War on Terror

In the first of a three-part series I look into the 1979 Jerusalem Conference on International Terrorism, where the ideology of the current War on Terror was conceived. I focus in on Benjamin Netanyahu, who hosted the conference and later wrote a book on all the major speeches and discussion. I round off by tracing the legacy of this conference via the example of the original Mohammed cartoons controversy in 2005.

The CIA’s TV Network

In the years before 9/11 the CIA invaded the entertainment industry. In the years after those attacks this relationship became more pronounced and overt. While it is not as influential as their Hollywood operations, the CIA's role in small-screen productions is still quite pronounced.

The CIA and Argo – The CIA and Hollywood 07

Pearse and Tom round off season 1 looking at the 2012 Oscar winning historical drama Argo, which is based on a real life exfiltration operation during the Iranian revolution. We discuss the CIA's almost too-obvious involvement in the film, the background of how the story was declassified and turned into a movie including the shadowy figures of producer David Klawans and writer Chris Terrio. We stick the boot into Ben Affleck and his film, not just for its 'Reel Bad Arabs' racism but also its outrageous and possibly intentional historical inaccuracy.

The CIA and Hollywood – Season 1 Digital Download

The first season of The CIA and Hollywood is now available as a digital download. For only $2.99 you get a convenient zip file containing all the episodes, a season guide, graphics from the show, source documents and more.

The CIA and Charlie Wilson’s War – The CIA and Hollywood 06

Sibel Edmonds is our final guest as we dissect this shambolic re-telling of the Soviet-Afghan War. Much of this conversation is devoted to what the film leaves out, such as Charlie Wilson being a CIA asset, the origins of Operation Cyclone being older and much more important than one drunk congressman and his ultra-right wing Christian friend and of course the likes of Jalaluddin Haqqani, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Osama Bin Laden who are completely absent from the movie.

The CIA and The Social Network – The CIA and Hollywood 05

Thomas Sheridan joins us to talk about the 2010 film The Social Network, which tells the story of the origins of facebook. We discuss the class struggle portrayed in the story, the mechanism by which the film could have been influenced by the CIA, the archetypes in the finely-produced melodrama that plays out, the CIA's silicon valley network which is conspicuous by its absence from the narrative, and the meaning of the movie's dark and brooding tone.

De-Manufacturing Consent- “The CIA Has Become the Phoenix”

Guillermo Jimenez Presents Douglas Valentine

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by CIA expert and author of The Phoenix Program, Douglas Valentine. Douglas explains how the CIA’s proposed “sweeping organizational changes,” as reported in the Washington Post, are the natural evolution of a process that began in 1967 with the Phoenix Program in Vietnam.
