It’s a good thing I don’t own a gun. I am hopelessly absent-minded. If I did own one, I would probably set it down next to my hair dryer, or beside my TV remote, or on my night table next to  my alarm clock, which I often fumble with while half asleep. (My cat also likes to fumble with objects on that table, knocking them to the floor, one by one.) And if I stuffed that gun into my big pouchy bag, I’d probably never see it again. Unless I carelessly tossed that bag on the floor somewhere, causing the gun to go off. Yes, good thing I don’t own a gun.

The story of a Pennsylvania church blessing AR-15s made the rounds on traditional and social media last week. The ceremony at the World Peace and Unification Sanctuary ministry in rural Newfoundland, PA, was widely ridiculed as bizarre and out of touch, but once you take away some of the theatrics, how different are these worshippers really from millions of Americans and the NRA?

The answer, it turns out, is not that much.

WhoWhatWhy went to Newfoundland twice last week, attended the gun-blessing ceremony and saw some things that the rest of the media seems to have missed.

Ce parti étant évidemment celui du Quai d’Orsay (administration noyautée par la pensée néoconservatrice) qui abonde quasi systématiquement dans le sens de la politique extérieure des États-Unis.

Amnesty International développe ici de très graves accusations envers le gouvernement syrien.

Souhaitons que la justice internationale puisse rapidement enquêter sur elles, et punir les coupables.
