This article is a continuation of pieces about my work as a consultant.

“Black Wall Street” was a prospering African-American neighborhood In Tulsa, Oklahoma, that went up in flames 95 years ago. Incredibly, most Americans have never heard of the shameful events of June 1, 1921, when whites firebombed the neighborhood from the air and an estimated 300 African-Americans were murdered.

For decades, the city of Tulsa tried to erase this dark day from its memory and history books alike. It  nearly succeeded — because what happened seems almost impossible to believe.

Finkelstein is not the best speaker

I am appalled to learn that Norman Finkelstein will be speaking at Methodist College as part of the Belfast Book Festival this year.

Mr Finkelstein has praised Holocaust deniers and Islamic extremists in the past, has mocked survivors of the Holocaust such as Elie Wiesel and has minimised victims of terrorism in the Israel/Palestinian conflict.

On May 30th I was attacked from behind by 3 Antifa activists on my way to a literature event in Edinburgh  with political commentator David Scott.  Police was informed and as you can see we posses photos of two of the overwhelmingly enthusiastic 'anarchists.'

The James Bond films, like the books on which they are based, have always pushed the boundaries of acceptable portraits of sex and violence. Documents from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) show how for Thunderball they reviewed the script, recommending many changes if the film was to achieve the 'A' certificate that the producers wanted.

In this week’s WhoWhatWhy podcast, Yale history professor Timothy Snyder talks to Jeff Schechtman about what he sees as the very real possibility that our republic will go the way of history’s other failed democracies, like Athens or even the Weimar Republic.  .

Both 1930s fascism and communism, Snyder warns, were responses to globalization and to rising inequality. We might be tempted to think that our democratic heritage automatically protects us from such threats, but he argues that this is a misguided reflex.

The myriad connections among these entities form a system.

Is sanity between Russia and the US possible?

The myriad connections among these entities form a system.

What happens when opposing countries, both giants, try to find a way toward sanity? What happens when each country has an enduring system dedicated to war?

If Edinburgh is the Athens of the North, it deserves an Athenian bookshop rather than a Jerusalemite crematorium.

Is Saudi Arabia responsible for the terror attack of September 11, 2001? Brain function increases and quickens. Endocrine levels optimize. The cells of the body awaken to a higher degree, and energy output rises.

From the point of view of the free individual, things are upside down. It is HIS power that is primary, not the monolithic corporate State’s.
