Artists Building Communities was founded by a group of low income, out of work artists when the pandemic began. They crowdfunded and built emergency tiny homes for their unhoused neighbors in Oakland. They have built seven homes since the pandemic began. Last December they teamed up with the residents of Wood Street, Essential Food and Medicine and Living Earth Structures to construct a Resiliency Hub in one of the largest encampments in the nation. Cob on Wood is the sustainable building arm of Artists Building Communities.
