Update (1630ET): In what can only be described as a concerning turn of events, health experts from Wuhan, China, called on Norway and other countries to suspend the use of mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines produced by companies such as Pfizer, especially among elderly people (following the surge in deaths in Norway described below).

Update (1730ET): Having already seen DHS refute the FBI’s fearmongering over “online chatter”, noting that there were in fact “no credible threats,” the top Federal prosecutor has just been forced to refute what appears be lies about strong evidence about assassination squads in The Capitol by Arizona state prosecutors.

Update (1232 ET): Buzz Feed’s Paul McLeod reports, “about 3,000 total national guard troops sheltering in the Capitol right now.”

McLeod said guardsmen had to stay in the Capitol building “overnight because there was nowhere to put all 15,000 troops being brought into DC for inauguration from various state national guards (eg New York sent 1,000).”

Impeachment is a “continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics”. 

“I think it’s causing tremendous anger.”

The Senate election in Georgia seems like it was years ago. Yet the trends that it foretells may be even more significant than the storming of the Capitol last week.

Recently, we’ve seen the movement of major companies — like Tesla, HP, Oracle, Dropbox, and Goldman Sachs — to blue cities in red states. These cities offer the amenities of blue culture coupled with a statewide environment of low taxes and less regulation.

Enby calls the evidence “very incriminating.”

Germany and France are shocked over Twitter’s decision to permanently ban President Trump from the platform, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel saying through a spokesman that lawmakers should set rules governing free speech, not private technology companies.

Update (1301 ET): Politico’s Lara Seligmandit reports Gen. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said the US Department of Defense had approved a plan to increase Guard troops in the Washington Metropolitan Area by 9,000, for a total of 15,000 to support the inauguration.

From the Daily Hampshire Gazette: “What happened on Wednesday was not an intelligence failure. It was a total security and law enforcement failure. During civil rights marches and other protests in Washington, you see the police in riot gear and even the National Guard in full battle rattle come out. Not on Wednesday.

This was the first military parade ever to celebrate one ex-Soviet nation’s victory over another. 

I wouldn’t have thought that any mass media reporters would have the temerity to continue the public smear campaign against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange after it became clear to everyone that he was the subject of a brutal Trump administration prosecution aimed at criminalizing inconvenient journalism. But if there was going to be anyone to take up that flag, it would be the odious James Ball.

As paranoia surrounding the dawn of new COVID “variants” reaches a fever pitch, local scientists are claiming that the Japanese Health Ministry said it had tracked down yet another variant of COVID-19 partly similar to the strains from the UK and South Africa, which are believed to be more contagious and linked to a spike in infections and potentially linked to rising numbers in the UK.

It is a fascinating thing that one year into this pandemic, we still do not understand who is most vulnerable to serious disease and hospitalization. Yes, there are rules. Lots and lots of rules.
