The economy has crashed. A nationwide pandemic that has (officially) claimed some 84,000 Americans has also resulted in an estimated 36 million filing for unemployment insurance and millions frequenting food banks for the first time.

Fresh calls to break up Facebook emerged this week after new reporting revealed the tech giant is the guiding force behind a new lobbying group aimed at battling back regulatory scrutiny of Silicon Valley.

The new group, the Washington Post reported Tuesday, is called American Edge, and while Facebook may not be the only entity behind it, “Facebook is viewed as a critical, primary driver.”

The mayor of Los Angeles on Tuesday quickly backpedaled from his top health director’s extension of the stay-at-home order that would now last through July, after residents were furious about further quarantines, reported Reuters.

Again the focus is on Greta Thunberg.

She’s trending on Twitter because CNN has decided to put this child climate change activist on panel with public health experts.

Which comes conveniently at the time YouTube is admitting no one wants to watch CNN but still promotes them anyway.

A professor at the University of Arkansas who received millions of dollars in research grants, including $500,000 from NASA, was arrested on Friday and charged with one count of wire fraud, according to a criminal affidavit unsealed Monday.

Governments around the world have been turning to technology to enforce quarantine related measures, including drones, robots, and advanced surveillance tracking.

At the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park in Singapore, authorities deployed a four-legged robot named Spot, which was created by Boston Dynamics.

The robot is roaming the park as a part of a two-week trial, to see if the robot could help enforce social distancing measures because machines are less likely to spread germs than human enforcers.

Ohio officials are encouraging employers to report what they’ve designated “Covid-19 fraud” as the state begins reopening some industries. Workers who refuse to report to work in light of the pandemic, which has killed more than 1,300 Ohio residents so far, can be reported via a government website and have their unemployment benefits taken away.

The links to the viral video “Plandemic” started showing up in my Facebook feed Wednesday. “Very interesting,” one of my friends wrote about it. I saw several subsequent posts about it, and then my brother texted me, “Got a sec?”
