A reader wrote and asked me whether the monolith I mentioned in an article about the Matrix was connected to the monolith in the Kubrick film, 2001.

In the film, the mysterious black monolith is proposed as a jump start to human evolution. It somehow transmits, to primitive tribespeople, more advance intelligence.

As Texas governor, Rick Perry (R) helped put in place some of the country’s most restrictive abortion laws. Though he is now ensconced in the Trump administration, heading up the Department of Energy, his brand of anti-abortion fervor has infected Republicans in dozens of states, in Congress, and the White House.

The official propaganda could go several ways. One version: “We won’t be inserting foreign genes from other species into food plants anymore, as we do now in GMO crops. Instead, we’ll be tweaking and editing the genes that are already in the plants. It’s wonderful.”

Of course, this “new and improved process” can produce unintended and unpredictable effects that ripple through plant DNA. Oops.

At last Palestinians are taking care of their fate and their Right of Return.  Israeli leadership  and the IDF are clearly confused by March of Return. The other day, I highlighted a 2017 study and quoted from a phys.org article, as follows: “…a new study published in Nature Methods has found that the gene-editing technology can introduce hundreds of unintended mutations into the genome.”

Rand’s novel, The Fountainhead, was published 75 years ago this month, after being turned down by 12 publishers. Yet for people like Paul Ryan, Stephen Miller, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Peter Thiel, it might as well have been a briefing paper published this morning.

Many of the 1.6 million disenfranchised felons in Florida may be one step closer to being able to vote thanks to a ruling from a federal judge. Earlier this week, US District Judge Mark Walker ordered Gov. Rick Scott (R) to devise a new system to restore convicted felons’ right to vote by April 26.

The court order from Walker requires Gov. Scott and the Executive Clemency Board, which manages voter restoration, to create and publicize “specific and neutral criteria to direct vote-restoration decisions,” and establish reasonable time frames for the restoration process.
