An increasing number of young college students want to believe in a better, more attractive future, in which little or no work will be required of them.

A truly free and open market

As an example, take modern medicine.

I’m not simply talking about health insurance companies competing for your dollar in a free market. Nor am I only talking about your ability to choose your own doctor.

I’m talking about health practitioners of every stripe free to care for patients, as long as they don’t use remedies that are more harmful than the standard allopathic modalities, for any given condition.

J’ai publié hier sur les réseaux sociaux plusieurs vidéos montrant la violence des forces de police en Catalogne contre les Catalans qui voulaient simplement voter – ce qui en dit long sur le niveau démocratique de nos sociétés européennes…

J’ai été étonné des commentaires qui concluaient abruptement que je soutiendrais l’indépendance de la Catalogne.

Ce qui est totalement faux.

Et ce pour une raison assez simple : comme souvent, j’essaye de ne pas avoir d’avis sur la question.

Le référendum catalan interdit du 1er octobre 2017 aura donc été émaillé par de très nombreux incidents, la police espagnole ayant tout fait pour empêcher les gens de voter – ce qui a donné ces images surréalistes :

I have just come across this video from 1986. I was playing Klezmer touring the USA. I was planning to stay in Berklee School of Music. I learned these three Jewish tunes 2 days before the tour begun.

There was a time when the difference between marketing and propaganda was a bright line. Marketing, in the old days, had some responsibility to tell the truth. At the very least, ads could not be blatantly false. Propaganda, on the other hand, was a construction of lies designed to appeal to our baser instincts and to what we already believed. From a biological perspective, it triggered the dopamine receptors that provide us with immediate and short-term pleasure.

Nowadays, the line between news, marketing and propaganda has become blurred.

The players are heavily recruited, and most of them hardly qualify as “student-athletes.” They’re at the school to play football and they hope to enter the NFL, where the money is.

The players make extraordinary amounts of $$ for the colleges, but none for themselves (excluding under the table cash and gifts).
