America’s electrical grid is a product of the 1930s. Therefore, just as Americans will need new highway infrastructure for the autonomous cars of the future, they will also need a new electrical infrastructure for 21st century energy sources such as wind and solar. Since Texas pretty much has its own grid, Hurricane Harvey had little impact on electrical transmission outside the state. However, if a similar storm had impacted the Eastern or Western grids, the “cascade” effect could have blacked out much of the country.

Older Americans still remember where they were when JFK was shot. For us Brits, it’s the same for the day Lady Diana died in a car crash after being chased by paparazzi.

I remember that grim week in the late summer of 1997 all too well. Adult life was knocking on my door with a recent move to London, but fittingly I was on a weekend visit to Dad at my childhood home when I found out. It was a normal Sunday morning, and I turned on the radio expecting to hear the usual childish cacophony of chart hits, but instead was met with somber Muzak.

The War Against China Kicked Off Last Week…Did Anybody Notice?  Well, China did.  So did North Korea, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan… As American media and public opinion continue their obsession with Trump, Trump’s generals have cleared the decks to confront China across Asia, and China hawks are cranking up the witch hunt against China doves.  More and more it looks like peace in Asia is unpatriotic and undesirable when it comes to America’s anti-China mission.

But that’s not the big story. The big story is buried in the FDA press release. Here is the Agency’s statement:
